Antibiotice Iași Cuts Electricity Costs
Romania's Antibiotice Iași reduced its electricity expenses by 20% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This drop is due to the use of its own solar energy generation, according to the company's financial report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The total expenses for electricity, natural gas, and drinking water fell to RON 11.68 million from RON 12.52 million a year earlier. Electricity costs were the main reason for this decrease. The photovoltaic plants generated savings of about RON 1.2 million. This amount is around 20% of the electricity consumed during the period, based on average purchase prices from suppliers.
Antibiotice Iași commissioned a 2.5 MW photovoltaic park in 2024. The investment was RON 11.8 million, financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the company's own funds. This installation meets about 25% of the electricity needs for the company's industrial operations in Iași. The company also reported a RON 76,000 reduction in electricity expenses for its electric vehicles in the first half of 2026 compared to the same time last year.
The trend of investing in photovoltaic generation is growing among industrial companies and local authorities in Romania. This growth is supported by European and government financing programs. Antibiotice Iași is notable as Romania's only state-controlled pharmaceutical manufacturer, overseen by the Ministry of Health.
