Bitcoin Social Interest Plummets to 2018 Levels, Analyst

Bitcoin's social interest has fallen to levels not seen since 2018, according to crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen. He noted that the current reading is approximately 0.25, significantly lower than the 0.5 recorded during the previous bear market. Cowen compared the current market conditions to those of 2018, highlighting that Bitcoin is currently holding support at $60,000, a stark contrast to the $6,000 support level from five years ago.

Engagement Metrics Decline

Cowen's analysis indicates a widespread drop in engagement across various platforms, including Google Trends, YouTube, and social media. He stated that all components of the social interest metric are near multi-year lows, suggesting that the decline is not isolated to any single platform.

Frankly, there are dozens of us left at this point,

Cowen remarked, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

Altcoin Market Struggles

The analyst also linked the decline in social interest to rising Bitcoin dominance, as altcoins struggle to gain traction. The advance-decline index of the top 100 cryptocurrencies has been trending downward since 2021, with many altcoins failing to reach new all-time highs during Bitcoin's recent rallies. Cowen expects social interest to continue its downward trend before potentially bottoming out in the next six to twelve months.
