Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI plans to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong within the next six months, according to sources familiar with the matter. The company is currently finalizing a fundraising round that may value it at over US$30 billion.
IPO Preparation
Moonshot AI has distributed a shareholder resolution to its investors, seeking their approval for the listing. The company is seizing the moment following the release of its advanced AI model, Kimi K3, which has been reported to outperform most competitors, except for Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6. This new model's capabilities have prompted a reevaluation of China's position in the global tech landscape.
Financial Growth
The startup's annual recurring revenue reached US$300 million in June, up from US$200 million in April. This growth has bolstered confidence in its market potential, prompting the decision to pursue an IPO. Moonshot AI was co-founded in early 2023 by Yang Zhilin, a former professor at Tsinghua University with experience at Meta Platforms and Google.
The anticipated IPO could influence investor sentiment in the technology sector, particularly in AI-related stocks, as it reflects growing confidence in Chinese tech capabilities. Investors will watch for the upcoming approval from shareholders and the potential impacts on market valuations in the AI space.
