SBI Mutual Fund aims to double AUM to ₹26 trillion by 2029

SBI Mutual Fund plans to double its assets under management (AUM) to over ₹26 trillion within the next five years, according to managing director and CEO Debasish Mishra. The announcement came on the final day of the fund house's initial public offering (IPO).

Growth Strategy

Mishra outlined a four-pronged strategy focused on democratizing wealth creation, enhancing digital delivery, improving investment performance, and developing new growth engines. The company aims to increase the share of assets from beyond the top 30 cities (B30) from approximately 30% to 50% over the next three years. Additionally, SBI Mutual Fund seeks to expand its investor base from 16 million to 35 million, targeting greater financial inclusion through artificial intelligence-led investing and wider distribution channels. Mishra stated,

Our aspiration is to become the fund manager to every Indian, just as our parent, State Bank of India, is the banker to every Indian.

IPO Demand

The IPO has seen robust demand, with retail subscriptions at 2.6 times, shareholder subscriptions at 7 times, and non-institutional investor subscriptions exceeding 16 times. The partnership with Amundi remains unchanged, with SBI holding a 56% stake and Amundi retaining 32%. Mishra expressed confidence in the mutual fund business's growth, stating,

I'm sure in five years' time we'll be doubling the whole size of the mutual fund business.
Market Impact

The ambitious growth targets set by SBI Mutual Fund could influence the asset management sector, particularly in the context of increased competition and market dynamics. Investors will watch for the company's progress in expanding its AUM and investor base, which may affect market sentiment towards mutual funds and related financial products.
