Pentair (NYSE: PNR) announced a significant reduction in its 2026 guidance due to ongoing destocking in the pool segment, leading to a steep drop in expected sales and earnings. The company reported preliminary second-quarter sales of approximately $930 million, a decline of 17% year-over-year, which fell short of its previous guidance of $1.134 billion and the $1.137 billion analyst estimate.
Earnings Forecast Adjustments
Pentair revised its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) outlook to about $1.12, down from a previous estimate of $1.47 to $1.50, and below the $1.48 estimate. The company also expects GAAP EPS from continuing operations to be around 80 cents, compared to earlier guidance of $1.39 to $1.42 and the $1.37 estimate. The destocking of pool channel inventory is estimated to have reduced quarterly segment sales by approximately $170 million and segment income by about $105 million.
Long-term Sales Projections
For the full year, Pentair now anticipates sales between $3.884 billion and $4.009 billion, representing a decline of 4% to 7%. This forecast is lower than the previous estimate of $4.260 billion to $4.343 billion and the $4.284 billion analyst estimate. The company cited a larger-than-expected inventory reset among major pool channel partners, alongside elevated interest rates and inflation, as contributing factors to the guidance cut. Additionally, Pentair expects full-year segment sales to be reduced by about $250 million due to destocking, with an income impact of approximately $155 million.
Pentair also announced the appointment of former CFO Bob Fishman as interim executive vice president and CFO following the departure of Nicholas Brazis on July 10.

The guidance cut is likely to negatively affect Pentair's stock performance, particularly in the pool and water solutions sectors, as investors react to the lowered sales and earnings expectations. The broader implications may influence investor sentiment in related industries, particularly those reliant on consumer spending in home improvement sectors.
