Superyacht Industry Valued at $61 Billion, Driving Economic Growth

The global superyacht industry has reached an estimated economic value of €54 billion (approximately $61.4 billion), according to a new study by Deloitte and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This report, commissioned by The Superyacht Life Foundation and the Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), highlights the industry's significant contributions beyond luxury ownership and travel, emphasizing its role in manufacturing, skilled employment, and tourism spending.

Focusing on vessels over 30 meters (98 feet), the study reveals that the sector generated €22 billion ($24.9 billion) in direct economic activity in 2022, with an additional €32 billion ($36.2 billion) in indirect impacts through supply chains and professional services. Remarkably, every €1 spent in the superyacht sector generates approximately €2.40 in broader economic value, showcasing the industry's extensive reach.

Dilan Saraç, executive director of The Superyacht Life Foundation, noted that the findings challenge the perception of superyachts as merely a niche luxury market. Instead, the research illustrates a deeply interconnected global economy that supports manufacturing, tourism, engineering, hospitality, and thousands of skilled jobs. The global fleet has surpassed 6,100 superyachts, with over one-third available for private charter, contributing to ongoing economic activity beyond the initial construction phase.

This comprehensive analysis marks the first attempt to quantify the total economic contribution of the superyacht industry, revealing its importance in various regions, particularly Europe, where most construction and high-end charter activities occur. As the sector continues to grow, it highlights the potential for further investment and job creation within the maritime economy.
