Apple Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter revenue of $109.42 billion, a 16.4% increase from the previous year, exceeding Wall Street expectations. The company attributed this growth to strong sales of iPhones and Macs, with iPhone revenue rising 21.7% to $54.25 billion and Mac sales increasing 28.7% to $10.35 billion. However, shares fell more than 4% in after-hours trading as the company warned of significant supply constraints affecting its products, particularly iPhones and iPads.
Supply Constraints Impact
Outgoing CEO Tim Cook stated that the company is experiencing "very significant constraints" in its supply chain, particularly concerning key chip components. He indicated that while demand for iPhones and Macs has surged, the supply chain lacks the flexibility to meet this unexpected demand. Cook emphasized that the issue is not a typical supply problem but rather a demand forecast issue. Apple expects these constraints to worsen in the upcoming quarter, leading to challenges in product availability.
Despite the supply concerns, Apple reported a gross margin increase of 25.3%, partly due to approximately $1.1 billion in tariff refunds. Cook mentioned that Apple plans to reinvest these refunds into U.S. manufacturing. While total product revenue rose 18.1% to $78.68 billion, services revenue fell short of expectations, coming in at $30.74 billion, below the projected $31.36 billion.
Regional Performance
In terms of geographical performance, revenue from Greater China increased by 22.4% to $18.82 billion, though it missed analyst estimates. The Americas generated $45.78 billion, up 11.1%, while Europe and Japan also saw revenue increases of 22.4% and 13.4%, respectively. Overall, the results highlight strong demand but also underscore potential challenges ahead due to supply chain issues.
