$11 Billion Wellness Island Project Launched in Abu Dhabi

A new wellness-focused development, Fahid Island, is set to be built in Abu Dhabi with an estimated cost of 40 billion UAE dirhams (approximately $10.9 billion). The project, led by Aldar Development, aims to create a coastal neighborhood designed to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of its residents. The development is expected to open fully in 2029 and will feature over 6,000 homes.

Project Details

Aldar Development, a company owned by the Abu Dhabi government, emphasizes that every aspect of the project will prioritize wellness. Emma McCreery Breen, senior vice president at Aldar, stated,

We’ve made sure that every single design decision and commercial decision has always looked at the product through the lens of wellness.

The project will include infrastructure and amenities that promote a healthy lifestyle, reflecting a growing trend in wellness tourism.

Environmental Considerations

The concept of wellness architecture is not new, but Fahid Island aims to integrate it into a community setting. Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has shown that living in walkable, green neighborhoods can significantly improve physical and mental health. Fahid Island is strategically located between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, both known for their entertainment and cultural offerings, which could enhance the appeal of the new development.
