Caledonia Mining Boosts Resources, Targets 128% Share Upside

Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC reported major resource increases at its Blanket Mine and the new Motapa project. This news led Cavendish to predict a 128% upside for the company's shares. Following the announcement on Friday, the stock rose 4% to 1,945p.

Resource Increases

Caledonia's measured and indicated resources at the Blanket Mine grew by 22% to about 2.2 million ounces. This increase was supported by successful deep drilling and development sampling. The company also announced a new resource of 500,000 ounces at the Motapa property, which is next to the Bilboes project. This closeness is expected to improve operational synergies and may allow Caledonia to delay extraction from farther deposits.

Production Growth Potential

These updates suggest a chance for increased production. The company plans to start shallow oxide extraction at Blanket as early as the first half of 2027. This could create a new source of gold production. CEO Mark Learmonth mentioned that the company is updating its life-of-mine plan. The goal is to extend operations beyond 2034 and boost annual production to over 270,000 ounces by 2029, which aligns with the first full year of production at Bilboes.

Cavendish noted that the Bilboes development could increase Caledonia's annual production capacity to 200,000 ounces. This growth could attract larger institutional investors. The company is also finalizing a $150 million interim funding facility and seeking environmental approvals for surface mining.
